The oldest cassette recorders and special audio devices

The tape cassette technology was originally meant to be used mainly in portable devices and for purposes where the fast and easy tape change was crucial, such as voice recorders. The first cassette recorders for music playback did not have very good parameters, similarly to the portable reel-to-reel recorders.
