Tesla ESA100

Year of manufacture: cca 1988
Manufacturer: Tesla Elektroakustika, Trebišov factory
Description:

Analog TV satellite receiver. The key component was a parabolic antenna with the so-called converter, which shifted the microwave signal from the satellite to a lower frequency that was sent over a coaxial cable to this receiver. The receiver demodulated the signal to baseband video and audio signals, which were connected to a TV set. The converters used advanced semiconductor components, were very difficult to obtain and were smuggled from the West. The parabolic antenna could be made at home, e. g. from fiberglass. The first receivers were very simple, with manual tuning, this one is already equipped with eight presets. The receivers were commonly built at home by enthusiasts. Analog satellite broadcast was terminated in April 2012.
