Description:

The first Tesla TV receiver of a modern mainstream design that was used until the end of black-and-white TVs - it is a superheterodyne with intercarrier sound, has a square picture tube and a flywheel horizontal synchronisation circuit. The reception of image and sound has been improved a lot when compared to the 4001A receiver. The diagonal of the screen is 35 cm. Akvarel was designed in Tesla Prague-Strašnice, but was manufactured in Tesla Pardubice. Due to the unavailability of new materials and components, it contains some makeshift solutions, such as the main rectifier that uses four UY1NS tubes connected in parallel. The line output stage uses an air core transformer that was copied from a West-German Grundig TV. The lavish cabinet suits the importance of the new TV receiver at that time. Only later the manufacturers would find out that the lifespan of a TV receiver is only a few years before it becomes obsolete, so it does not make sense to put it into a beautiful, expensive wooden cabinet.
