16 mm movie camera Pentaflex 16

Year of manufacture: approx. 1960
Manufacturer: VEB Pentacon, Dresden, GDR
Description:

16 mm camera for news reporting. The 16 mm film format was also used in small cinemas, schools etc.. The television used it in the times when no portable TV cameras and recorders were available. The newsman carried this camera and sometimes also an audio tape recorder. The news was recorded on a film which was then developed and broadcast using a film scanner. If the sound from the tape was not available, the film could be accompanied with a narration that was read from a paper. The 16 mm film format provided worse image quality than the 35 mm format, but it was still fairly sufficient for TV purposes.
