Image orthicon

Description:

The image orthicon is a TV camera tube developed in the USA around the end of World War II. The Czechoslovak TV used it since the beginning of the 1960s. The tube provides excellent sharpness and sensitivity, it was possible to record a scene lit with a candle. It was used in our black-and-white TV cameras until the end of the black-and-white era. In USA, the name of the tube would be shorted as Immy. This inspired the name of the Emmy Awards presented by the U. S. Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
