Vidicons

Description:

Here you can see several vidicons with different diameters. The vidicon is a camera tube with a principle similar to the plumbicon. The sensitive layer is formed of tiny capacitors with a photoresistor connected in parallel. The advantages are the small dimensions and a simple design of both the tube and the surrounding electronic circuits. Thanks to this, the vidicons were well suited for closed-circuit TV. The drawback is their slowness, objects moving across the image would leave trails behind them. The vidicons were also used in deep space probes. Their quality was not sufficient for public TV cameras.
