CCD scanner

Description:

This type of image scanner does not belong to the vacuum electronics, but to semiconductors. It was invented in the USA in 1969, its authors received a Nobel prize in 2009 for their invention. They say that it took them about one hour to invent the principle. Basically, it is an integrated circuit (a shift register) exposed to light radiation. The CCD scanners can be made as either monochromatic or color version. The scanner that is presented here uses three monochromatic devices with an optical color division system and was used in a professional TV camera. In consumer electronics (such as digital photo cameras), color scanners are used.
