Tesla PMD 85

Year of manufacture: 1985/cca 1990
Manufacturer: Tesla Piešťany, later Bratislava
Description:

8-bit computer for schools, a Slovak alternative to the Czech IQ 151. It was made in three gradually improved versions. It uses a Tesla MHB8080 processor, manufactured in Piešťany, and 48 KB, later 64 KB memory. The power supply was placed in a separate box. The read-only memory with the operating system is placed in a cassette inserted into the top of the computer. A standard TV receiver would be used as a monitor, data would be stored on a cassette. The last version of this computer had color video output. It had a better keyboard than the IQ 151. You can see some EPROM memory chips in front of the computer, they contain a plotter driver programme. These memories had tens to hundreds kB capacity and were widely used to store operating systems, development environments etc.. The memory could be erased by ultraviolet radiation and programmed again, the package has a window for this purpose. The window had to be covered after programming, otherwise the chip might be erased again by the surrounding light.
