Description:

Camping 28 is the successor of the first Czechoslovak transistor TV receiver, the Camping, which was launched in 1966 and had a smaller picture tube and a different cabinet. The only vacuum tube, apart from the picture tube, is the high voltage rectifier. A transistor TV receiver was a great achievement at that time, only the best Western and Japanese companies would produce them. It could be powered from mains or a 12 V source such as car battery. It drew 25 watts from the mains or only 13 watts when powered with the battery. A vacuum tube receiver would draw approx. 160 watts. Despite all of this, only a small number of these receivers was produced. Some say that the reason was that the Soviets have only just started with transistor TV production and it was not desirable to produce them in their satellite state. After 1968, consumer production in Tesla Pardubice was brought to an end. Tesla Orava made their first portable transistor TV receiver in 1980. They have produced some transistor TV sets in the 1970s, but these used an imported Yugoslavian chassis.
